Why tech websites and blogs should not use third-party advertising like AdSense

Technological websites are money makers. The more how-to related articles in your sites the more visitor you tend to get. Internet related sites too get good traffic.
So in order to monetize from it you need to put ads on it. The first choice is of course Google's Adsense due to it's good CTR and CPC. Then there are several like chitika, ypn, bidvertiser, etc.

However, the problem is that most of your users would be geeks,(not true for reviews website as non-geeks will also vist for reviews) they probably might have embraced Firefox and most probably might have installed addon called Adblock Plus which blocks most of these ads.
You might have noticed that impression shown in your adsense stat is less than the actual impression. So, how to go around this?

The option is to have direct advertising hosted on your own server. As the url of the ad will be different(adblock plus works by detecting ad url like pagead..... for adsense) adblock plus will not be able to block this. But, make sure your url does not contain the word "ads", "sponsored",etc.
However, visitors can block these ads manually. But then only regular visitors would do this. Search engiene visitors will see your ads and hopefully click it.

Difference between diferent video related Adsense product

AdSense for video
AdSense for video allows publishers with video content to earn revenue using relevant, non-intrusive ad placements from Google's extensive advertiser network. Video content will display both InVideo overlay and text overlay ads.

At this time, AdSense for video is in Beta may only be implemented for pages and videos that are in English with traffic primarily from the United States. If you're interested in participating, learn about the requirements, then fill out our interest form.

Adsense video ads
Click-to-play video ads are a new type of ad available for sites in the Google network, including AdSense sites. They're available in several ad formats and will be shown only if a publisher is opted in to image ads for one of the supported ad formats.

When a video ad is served to a page, it will be displayed as a static opening image. Once the user clicks the play button or the opening image, the video will begin playing within the ad space. If the user clicks the display URL at the bottom of the ad, or clicks the ad while it's playing, the user will automatically be taken to the advertiser's website. Users can control the volume and can replay the video if they choose; the video will not automatically replay.

Adsense Video units
Video units are a new way to enrich your site content -- and earn more -- with relevant video from YouTube partners on an embedded, customizable video player. When you place a video unit on your site, you can choose the video content in several ways: by picking content categories, by select individual content providers, or by having video automatically targeted to your site content.

The videos you display will be monetized with relevant ads, too. The video unit displays companion and text overlay ads that are highly targeted and non-intrusive. Plus, to help integrate video units into your site further, you can also customize the color scheme and layout of the video unit.

My Adsense application rejected HELP !!!!

I got this email from Adsense:

Thank you for your interest in Google AdSense. While reviewing your
application, we found your account to be closely related to an account
disabled for invalid click activity. Because we strive to protect the
interests of both our advertisers and our other AdSense publishers,
we're unable to approve your application.

In addition, please note that you will not be eligible to participate
in the AdSense program in the future. We realize the inconvenience this
may cause you, and we thank you in advance for your understanding and
cooperation.

If you have any questions about your account or the actions we've
taken, please do not reply to this email. You can find more information
by visiting
https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=57153&hl=en_US.

To which I replied (everything is true):

I have been informed that I have not been approved for adsense account because "it is closely related to an account disabled for invalid click activity"

I think that account was that of my uncle who was staying with us, but, now has moved out.

I had myself signed up for adsense, but, later I realised that it was necessary to be 18 years of age , I emailed you and had my account disabled. I don't remember the email ID maybe this  one or withheld@yahoo.co.in. You can check your logs.

I am, currently, monetizing my site through adsense in my mother's name. And that account is being operated in good way with NO invalid clicks, etc. Now that I have turned 18 I want to start adsense account in my name, AGAIN.

In the link you have sent me in email https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=57153&hl=en_US you mention that "If we determine that a related publisher's account may pose a risk to our AdWords advertisers, we may disable it in order to protect our advertisers' interests. "

As I have stated above I have and will not do anything to pose threat to your advertisers . My actions shows that I am following your Program Policies.

Hoping that you will reconsider your decision.

Can you please help me. email me(displayed on my Blogger profile page) or comment me..

Cavalcade Adsense ad for "typically young men"

Google Content Network will soon launch, debuting with short webisodes of a show called “Cavalcade” developed by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane

The web sites where Cavalcade will be shown are being selected by Google’s existing contextual algorithms. That means that Google will be able to display the show only to those likely to be interested – in Cavalcade’s case “typically young men” according to the Times.

The potential for this type of system is pretty massive because everyone wins. Publishers serve something way more interesting than a typical banner or text ad, advertisers get to reach their target audience with video, and Google gets more data based on how the shows perform on different web sites. Also, video ads traditionally have much higher CPMs than text or display ads, meaning it’s potentially a lot more money that can be pumped through the AdSense ecosystem if the format proves successful
.
As for Cavalcade, the show will have 50 different two-minute episodes. Presumably, short enough so people will watch the whole thing, but long enough to squeeze in a few ads. It will certainly be an interesting experiment to watch

Does adding Google Search box to blog help adsense publisher.

These days every one using any browser have Google toolbar. Firefox has Google search box on its navigation bar. You don't actually have to visit Google search pages for searching for any information.

So if add Google search box in you site or blog is it of any use? It will only occupy your site's real estate. No one will search using it except if your site provides tips, etc. and the user wants to search your site.

I have added search box yesterday, but no search has been conducted using it and so obviously no ad click.

Inside AdSense: A word of caution

From the blog post of Adsense blog Inside AdSense: A word of caution here is an excerpt

Of late, we’ve received a few emails from new AdSense applicants about not being accepted into the program despite paying a specific amount of money or buying a CD package.

We’d like to take this opportunity to state that we're not affiliated with any third-parties that solicit payment to join the AdSense program or that sell CDs with money-back guarantee offers. AdSense is a free product offered to publishers by Google Inc., and there’s no cost or obligation involved. As a result, we recommend that prospective publishers exercise caution when presented with such offers.

Google seems to ignore the fact that these third parties use Adwords to advertise their schemes. Isn't Google partly responsible as these ads which appears on its sites makes it seem like Google endorses these services or product or affiliation.

Adsense racist?

1.Well it has been quite a long time since, Adsense has introduced Electronic Clearance. It allows publishers to directly transfer their money to their bank account. Many countries like US,UK,Italy, etc have been included but India has been ignored till now. Even PayPal.com has started this and that to free if the amount exceeds Rs.7000.
2.Adsense have started Video units which are are customizable YouTube players you can place on yoursite; the player will play YouTube videos, and text ads will be
displayed within the player. It is available only in US,UK and some other countries. Adsense snubbed India even though it has more English speaking population than UK.
3.Now an announcement has been made that they will no longer support Adsense referrals in India.
Good News is that Microsoft is buying Yahoo. This might drum up Yahoo's YPN and it might come out of beta and be available to publishers outside US.
What do you say?

Google must buy PayPerPlay to increase profits

There were signs of a slowdown at Google after it reported disappointing profits in its most recent quarter.
Google's profits were up 17% to $1.21bn (£608m) for the three months to the end of December.
Google's shares have fallen more than 18% so far this year on concerns that the slowing US economy will cause advertisers to cut back on spending.

Google's main source of income is through Adwords. Clicks generated on it PPC network Adsense bolsters it's profits. But lately, Adwords advertisers have been cutting ad spend due to various reasons. The CPC has also reduced. In this situation Google has to look at various alternative methods of advertising. Last year it bought digital advertising company DOUBLECLICK to increase profits. Doubleclick has the best solutions for banner advertising. Now greatness of Google's advertising is that even small advertiser can advertise and get good result. But, due to this big advertisers who spend big do not stand out.
Google should take over PayPerPlay Media. It is a unique audio ads concept which is contextual as Adsense. Unfortunately, PayPerPlay Media does not have the technology or the innovative power of Google to get huge profits. Advertisers spend huge on TV to capture audience. The super bowl is one event where ads spending rockets moon-high!! Youtube is one such part of Google that it can match Super Bowl. It's top videos has captured more eyeballs than Super Bowl. And with Google present in almost all major countries,it can easily deliver regional language audio ads which PayPerPlay media cannot offer(at least soon). Google can easily help advertisers target top sites like Youtube, orkut, etc and charge a premium. This will not only help advertisers get good results but also will reduce their unnecessary spending as small sites can be avoided if they want.
Also Adsense publishers will get even more ways to monetize their site.

After Feb 1,Digg and other sites will be spammed.

The most hyped intrusive advertising is here. Audio ads will be played whenever a visitor visits the site from February 1. The audio will be of 5 seconds.
Now, what is better source of traffic than the social networking sites. Just imagine how much a front page story can give you traffic. It is estimated that a front page story generates around 50000+ page views. It is estimated that every ad play will give you 0.01 to 0.03. Assume it is 0.01. Therefore for 50000 it will be $500. Whew!! Even the most successful webmaster will tell you that to earn this kind of money through Adsense in short time is very difficult. Even though if you don't get a front page even 100 views a day is very good. And remember I took the value of per ad play as 0.01, imagine after it becomes successful and the rate increases.
Living of the net has never been so easy!!!!

Pay-Per-Play is now in huge demand by major branding advertisers all over the world. As of 12/29/2007 the Pay-Per-Play network has grown to over 6 million websites.

How Does Pay-Per-Play Work?

PPP audio ads play as soon as a visitor arrives on a web page where the PPP code is inserted. The audio advertisement is only heard and not seen and requires no action from a website visitor.

One of the main benefits of running PPP ads on your website is the fact that you never send visitors away from your site. This allows you the opportunity to continue to earn from your visitors.

PPP audio ads play automatically for 5 seconds so website owners need to choose specific pages of their website where it is appropriate for their visitors to hear a single 5 second audio advertisement.

You should be aware that PPP audio ads are not appropriate for all web pages. It is up to the website owner where they will place audio ads.

How youtube can pay it's contributers

Do you feel that you are not getting enough from the video you have submitted to youtube except emotional happiness after seeing that your video is popular, then you are not alone.Youtube's founder a year ago had announced that the company is going to pay users who contribute original content. One year since the plan has not seen the light of the day. Main reason is that Youtube dominates the video sharing market and with its popularity unmatchable it does not feel the need to pay the contributers and reduce its profits even though several others like Metacafe and Revver pay. . One way it can do this and also make profits is by allowing contributers to put their adsense codes on their video page. Image ads would be better as they will create CPM impression. This will encourage users to create more original content. The company is busy paying royalties to several music and television companies but it is not willing to pay its original contributers who have fueled the site's success.
Just imagine how much 'leave Britney alone guy' would have earned.

Why Digg should ditch MSN and use Adsense

We all love digg. It keeps us updated about the latest happenings. But the advertisement on the Digg are painfully irrelevant.I clicked on this sony ad and I was taken to the page only to realise that it is for US residents. I don't understand why such ads are displayed in other countries. It is irritating to view such ads. On the other hand Adsense would generate the perfect ads.

Showing google products ads on adsense reduces profits

I had noticed for a particular post in this blog in adsense ad units most of the ads where of google's products. Ad links above contained single ad of google maps,in unit below it had of Adwords and on right side it contained a single ad of Gmail. So,out of 8 possible ads I got only 3. I know these ads are served according to content and they have the highest possible price, but due to the popularity of Google products I doubt whether I got any clicks.
I am planning to filter ads from google.com.and hope to monetize further.

Get $25 bonus and Higher CPC than adsense

Earn $$ with WidgetBucks

That is right!!!!! I am earning more per day from WidgetBucks which I have placed below adsense . I am already earning around $50-$150 per day from widgetbucks. They give $0.28-$0.50 per click!!!!!

India snubbed by AdSense ?

Adsense has launched video units in other "English-speaking countries" like UK,Canada, etc after the US. But,they fail to notice Indian publishers. India has more people speaking English than the UK. But they are still in no hurry to launch it in India.
